Outlook 2003 keeps closing on message retrieval

Hi,

Outlook 2003 (build 11.5608.5703) keeps closing after
encountering a problem during the receive task of message
send/receive from a POP3 server. On re-start the problem
keeps recuring. If I switch to working offline then
Outlook stays up until I manualy initiate a send/receive.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm all out of ideas.

The error signature sent to MS looks as follows:

AppName: outlook.exe
AppVer: 11.0.5510.0
AppStamp: 3f1380f0
ModName: msmapi32.dll
ModVer: 11.0.5601.0
ModStamp: 3f2cc673
fDebug: 0
Offset: 00015427

I've tried running detect and repair and it hasn't made
any difference. I'm running on a W2003 Standard Server.

I recently had to use the XP Pro Recovery Console in order
to gain access my computer (it wouldn't even boot, and
this change occurred aftera Symantec Virus Definitions
update? coincidence? I'm still trying to figure this
out). Anyway, when comparing my error message to D's, I
get an IDENTICAL AppName, AppVer and AppStamp message, but
the ModName is msctf.dll, the ModVer is 5.1.2600.1106, the
ModStamp is 3d6dfa10, the fDebug is 0 and the Offset is
0002182c. Outlook opens and shows email contents, but I
cannot perform ANY other operations. It's frozen. Is D's
problem related to mine? What gives? Visits to the
knowledge base have been fruitless. I'm feeling hopeless.

I've got a sinking feeling too :-( I had this problem a
few weeks ago on a XP Pro system that had McAfee anti-
virus running, I wasn't able to resolve the problem and
started using Outlook on the system I now have a problem
with.

In this case, I don't have any anti-virus or add-in
software running.
