Outlook 2003 locks up when using Word as editior

I have used WORD as my Outlook 2003 editor for ywo years with no problems.
Now all of a sudden my Outlook 2003 locks up and "hangs" forever when I try
to create or forward an email. This problem goes away when I "uncheck" the
use WORD as editor feature.
I want to continue using WORD as my editor,

Anyone have an Idea?

I am also having this problem on some PC's. Anyone have suggestions as to why
this is happening?

This only started happening to me after I installed Office 2003 SP1 and two
critical security updates. Is there any way to roll those back?

can you remove it from add/remove programs?

Nope. XP SP2 has an entry for uninstall, but nothing for Office. I tried to
repair Office first, and that got hung up. I guess my only option is to
uninstall Office completely and start over, not download the service pack...
