Outlook 2003 Mail - Collapse/expand icons with a mind of their own

In the Mail folder, I've collapsed previous weeks/months mail so that I only
see the current week. Every so often, I find that all time periods have been
expanded. I'm not closing Outlook, just minimising it. Any ideas as to why,
and how can I stop it happening? Thanks in advance,
