Outlook 2003 meeting request

R

Rachel

We have a few people running Office 2003, using Outlook
2003. Most of the other users are on Office 2000/Outlook
2000. We have come across an issue when creating meeting
requests in Outlook 2003 for Outlook 2000 users. When
the meeting request is sent from Outlook 2003 and
received by Outlook 2000, the message is "garbage" - it
is not in a meeting request format that can be
accepted/declined. Here is what the appt looks like when
it is received:

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I have not
found anything on MS Knowledge Base.

Thank you !!

That's not garbage at all. It's a perfectly valid iCalendar meeting request.
The problem is one of an iCal incompatibility in Outlook 2000. The quick
solution is for the Outlook 2003 users to remove any reminder before sending
a meeting request. The longterm solution is to contact Microsoft Support to
request the Outlook 2000 iCalendar hotfix and install it on all Outlook 2000
machines; there should be no charge for the support call since you're
requesting a fix for a known bug.
