Outlook 2003 Newsreader problem

B

Bill

When I first started MS Outlook I installed the newsreader as outlined below.
and it ran quite well, it got all of the news that was in outlook express
and brought it into Outlook.

The first time you use the newsreader, you must add the News command to the
Go menu.

1. Add the News command to the Go menu.
1. On the Standard toolbar, click the
Toolbar Options arrow.
2. Point to Add or Remove Buttons, and then click Customize.
3. Click the Commands tab.
4. In the Categories list, click Go.
5. In the Commands list, click News, and drag it, without releasing the
mouse, until it rests over the Go menu. When the menu displays a list of
commands, point to where you want the command to appear, and then release the
mouse.
2. Click the Go menu, and then click News.

After I shut down and then booted the next day I realized that the news
reader funtion was no longer available. When I tried to reinstall the news
reader (defined above) this option was not available.

How do I get the newsreeader back onto my standard toolbar?

This isn't an Outlook support newsgroup (OneNote instead), Bill, but go to
the Outlook toolbar, right-click on a blank spot, and select Customize.
Then go to the Command tab, select Go in the left pane, scroll the right
pane until you see News (not New), left-click it and drag it to the toolbar
location you want. Drop it.

BTW - Outlook does not have "news" - it uses Outlook Express in a separate
window. Outlook only offers the link to launch OE.

MAPIlab has an Outlook add-in that gives Outlook the ability to handle
NNTP (newsgroup) messaging. I only fiddled around with it, but it
looked pretty cool. FYI.

You can also Google for "NewsLook" which is another NNTP add-in for Outlook.
I used it for a while last year and was pretty happy with it.

Thanks, I'm checking it out now. Looks interesting, and the $8 price is
a darn sight cheaper than the MAPIlab product. Thanks for the lead!
