Outlook 2003 no menu's

W

ws1

Every time I start outlook 2003 it starts with no tool bar or menus
nothing just Microsoft outlook across the top if I minimize to the task
bar and then restore, it restores with all the usual menus ect I've
checked every option I can think of apart from detect and repair which I
don't fancy in case I lose everything, this problem started with Win XP
Pro-SP2 installation but since then I've updated to office SP1 every
other function appears to work normally you can't do anything of course
until I minimize and restore from there task bar to get the tools back
so I can at least send and receive mail----annoying thing, do any of you
guys and dolls have any ideas ?

thanks Wayne

Reset the Toolbar; all Toolbar customizations will be lost and the Toolbar
will reset to what it looked like when you first installed Outlook. To do
this locate outcmd.dat and rename it to outcmd.old when Outlook is closed.
By default you can find it here;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Thanks for the reply I tried your suggestion twice in fact and its still
the same so I copied the outcmd.dat file from my wifes account since her
settings are identical and pasted it into mine no difference and yet her
Outlook works fine but I have discovered something else thats strange
which is I run my screen res at 1280 by 960 and my wife doesn't when I
minimize outlook to the taskbar then restore it even though it started
out at full screen it always comes back at about half screen size in the
center with the tool bars if I leave it at that size shut down outlook
and then restart it comes back as before in the center with the tool
bars its only when I run outlook at full screen and then shut it down
that it comes back with out the tool bars and I have recently installed
a new Matrox P650 graphics card so could it be something to do with my
screen res ? I can live with it but if you use outlook a lot which I do
I always run it in full screen also the video drivers are the latest
microsoft certified ones for matrox cards.

Thanks Wayne

Hmm, haven't seen that yet I think...

Does the same happen when you start Outlook in safe mode?
Start-> Run; "path to Outlook.exe" /safe

Sorry for not getting back sooner things have progressed, I can only get
on-line in the evenings and when I logged on tonight I found internet
explorer with out any icons as well just text menus anyway I thought
stuff this obviously my XP user accounts got screwed up so I've spent
the last hour having a good clear out and setting up a new account and
so far everything works fine I suspect I've been having problems for a
while with various programs but not really looked in it I did have a
copy of Visual Basic 2005 Beta installed which I've been playing with
that could have upset things so I've uninstalled it anyway things seem
ok at the moment so thanks again.
