outlook 2003 not recognizing word as email editor

I have Office 2003 Professional installed, but outlook does not recognize
that word is installed, so I cannot use word as my email editor. I have made
sure the box in the tools section is checked & I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the program several times; which fixes the problem for a short
time, but then it goes back to saying word is not installed. Any suggestions?
