Outlook 2003 - Notification sound will NOT change

S

Synergistics

Starting yesterday, my new mail notification sound began just playing a
-Beep- sound, much like the default system beep instead of the notify.wav
file that is still specified on the sounds screen for the system. I have
turned of notification sounds and closed Outlook and then changed the sound
to another Wav file and then restarted OUtlook in an effort to fix this but I
cannot get it to go away. Does anyone know why this would happen? I have
not installed any recent updates or software to my system in the past several
days since this issue has cropped up...any help in resolving is very much
appreciated!

Thank you.

I am not being facetious, but are your speakers plugged in? Do any other
sounds workd?

All other sounds are working...and correctly. Just this one sound for
inbound mail...which does produce a sound just not the one assigned and I
cannot determine what is telling it to play that sound.

If it is a system sound, see if you can replace the file with one extracted
from your Office cd using SFC. It may be corrupted. Otherwise, try
selecting a non-office sound to play and see if that one works/

Remember, in Outlook 2003 if you have a rule that acts on a message, the new
mail notification sound does not sound.

Just to be sure, you do have sound notification turned on in Outlook
tools->options->other->advanced options "Provide feedback with sound" as
well as under the reminder options on the same page?
