Outlook 2003 open message window

On Windows XP, Outlook 2003 SP1, sometimes (not consistent) when we send emails that contain attachments (usually Word documents, but not always), the
email message is sent, but the message window stays open on the screen and on the taskbar. The Send button is grayed out. When we check with recipients, they have received the email message. This happens on more than one computer and for more than one user.

Any ideas why this happens and how to prevent it?

Thanks

Could you post your account setup and steps to reproduce as there are
various ways to attach a document to a message.

Exchange server 2003, using Outlook 2003 as the end client. The problem
occurs primarily with one method of sending an attachment. Send directly
from the application such as word. File --> Send To --> Mail Recipient (As
Attachment). The windows clears and everything grays out but the window is
still open. Click X and it closes.

We use HTML as our editor not Word. Everything else is basically standard.
no archiving etc..

Thanks

Could be a couple of things and you may want to try to reset the following
and find if something is working for you. For all things make sure Word and
Outlook are closed (check Task Manager!)
-check your add-ins for both Word and/or Outlook. Disable/update them if
needed.
-reset the Toolbar by renaming outcmd.dat to .old (rename it back if it
doesn't work)
-reset the default Word template normal.dot to .old (rename it back if it
doesn't work)
-export and delete the following registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word
start Word on it''s own and have it repair itself (re-import the regkey if
this doesn't work)
