I have a client who is running Outlook 2003 (connecting to Exchange Server
2003) on a WindowsXP Pro. (sp2) box. When the user tries to close Outlook it
appears to close normally but the process, outlook.exe, does not terminate.
You can kill the process from Task Manager.
I have verified that the problem is not being caused by Anti-Virus or
Outlook Add-In's. My client does not have a PDA so I know that is not the
issue. I tried running Outlook my booting the system to 'Safe Mode -
Network' but the problem persists.
When the problem occurs there is an Outlook icon in the system tray and when
you double click on it you are presented with the following text:
"Outlook is not responding. If you are using an Exchange server e-mail
account, you can cancel pending server requests by clicking the Outlook icon
in the notifications area, and then clicking Cancel Server Request on the
shortcut menu."
I do not believe this to be a problem with my Exchange Server since no one
else in the office is experiencing this problem. I have scanned the system
for malware using the latest Ad-Aware build and have also scanned for virus
infection using Symantec AV. Both come up clean.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
