Outlook 2003 .PST File Corruption

J

J. Aloye

In brief, I am wondering if anyone can provide some suggestions on how to
deal with possible file/data corruption of my outlook.pst file.

I have a Treo 650 that I synch with Outlook 2003 and after numerous
technical support cases with Palm, their technicians seem to adamantly
believe there is some kind of outlook.pst file corruption problem that is
preventing my Treo from properly synchronizing.

I have 5 years worth of information in my outlook.pst file and can not
afford to re-create everything from scratch so I am really hoping that
someone can advise me how I could handle this issue.

When I try to archive my outlook.pst file, about three to five minutes into
the archive process, I recieve errors related to "unable to access
outlook.pst" or "unable to access archive.pst". At that point, if I close and
re-launch outlook, I am not able to access some of the material in such as
email or calander, etc while other material is accessable.

Ultimately, I need to reboot the pc completely to restore my ability to
properly access the data in my outlook.pst file via Outlook 2003.

I hope this information will be enough to allow a "knowing mind" to render a
suggestion on this matter.

Thanks alot in advance for any help or suggestions.

You might try this...

1st, copy your entire .pst file somewhere else so if the process goes bad
you can start over.

2nd, use Help | Detect and Repair | and see how it goes.

Also backup your PST and run SCANPST tool. That was created to repair ugly
PST files.

If those techs say its a PST corruption issue ... you shoudl have told them
to create a new test PST and make that thing work.

Detect and Repair does not fix my problem.

Is this SCANPST Tool something built in to Outlook? If so, how do I run it?
If now, where and how do I get it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Search for file ... scanp*.* on your PC. Double click on it and browse to
the path where you PST is hiding and then it's easy to follow.

Make a copy of the PST file. To play safe.
