Outlook 2003 Questions (Navigation Pane; Deleted Items)

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone can help out with two quick Outlook 2003
(11.8010.6568 SP2) questions:

1) Is there anyway to get back the Outlook 2002 behavior where by
clicking on the folder name from the heading row (i.e. - when listed
between the "<- Back", "->" buttons and "Address" input box) brings up
the folder list? Right now I don't see a way to have Office 2003's
"Navigation Pane" un-pin iteself. Personally, I added an icon for
"inbox" and "calendar" in the standard icon bar to make for quicker
mouse navigation and to maximize screen real estate, but it's a pain to
show the navigation pane just to browse to other folders only to have
to hide it afterwards.

2) Is there a way to turn off the "Empty the Deleted Items folder upon
exiting" setting without the UI? It appears that - in their infinite
wisdom - our administrators have disabled that checkbox (with it on)
and that makes me want to take my monitor and throw it out the window.

Thanks in advance for the help!

1) No (I miss it too), but Outlook 2007 will have a collapsible navigation pane.

2) Yes, they could have done that with Group Policy objects. What you can do (unless they've blocked that, too) is set AutoArchive to run every day and set the Deleted Items folder's AutoArchive settings to keep items for just 1-3 days or whatever period of time will let you retrieve items that you regret having deleted.

sue-

thanks for the great reply ... while it wasn't the news i was hoping
for, at least i know now that i can stop spinning my proverbial wheels
(on this anyway!).

thanks ... i'll hunt around through gpedit and see if i can't undo
that. i'm more interested in unchecking the box because i save
everything ... i've been here for seven years and i think i've got just
about every email that i've ever sent or received. i like leaving stuff
in that folder and then once every couple weeks or so i purge it to a
local folder so i'm not sure that autoarchive would help me if i try to
preserve that. if i find the policy i'll post it back here in case
anyone else runs into this.

thanks again for your time!
