Outlook 2003 REFUSES to play custom sound on new mail!

I have a user that had this problem, and we could never find any help on the
internet. He just got a new PC - did a complete new load of Office, did not
import anything, and it STILL refuses to play a custom sound, just the
default new mail sound. The entries in the registry are correct. Attaching
to Exchange 2003


Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried turning off the option of playing the "default" sound and
then just test the rule that should be playing the custom sound? (Also
think about the order of rules as well.)

Tried all that - still only the default New Mail sound - really irritating
(at least for my co-worker)

OK - operator error - he was doing a Run As for Outlook, so changes he was
making were not reflected in his current profile - logged on with the
account he was doing the run as and made changes - works fine!
