Outlook 2003 Requirements and Install procedure

Hi, I have the Teacher/Student edition of Microsoft Office, which has System
Requirements of Windows 2000 SP3 or Windows XP. It is installed and running
on the two computers in my home that meet those requirements.

I would like to install only Outlook 2003 on the one computer that is
running WindowsME. It has Office97 (without Outlook). I am assuming this
should work since ME was concurrent (I believe) with 2000. Am I correct?

I am currently using Outlook Express 6 on the computer. Can I install
Outlook 2003 without losing my current contacts and emails? If so, how?

Sorry to report this, but Office/Outlook 2003 will not install on Windows
95/98/ME/NT4. If you try, the install program should fail and tell you it
is not a supported operating system. The last version of Office/Outlook
supported on the platforms mentioned above is Office XP (2002).

Okay, so I decided I will upgrade the computer to use Windows XP.

Then, I will install Outlook 2003. How do I do this without losing my
current contacts and emails?

Backup your *.PST and *.PAB file(s). If you burn these to a CDR(RW), make
sure that you do *not* burn at anything faster than 4x. PST files have a
nasty habit of corrupting at anything faster than this. Once you do create
the CD with your PST, test the copy on another machine if you can.

Once done, you can run the mock upgrade install of Windows XP from the CD
and see what things it identifies that need to be addressed before you
upgrade the operating system.
