Outlook 2003 send and receive fails XP x64 and SBS 2003

Dell Precision 64 bit running XP x64 bit and Office Pro 2003 connected to
Small Business Server 2003. All with latest updates.

Majority of the time if you do a send and recieve within Outlook it will
fail trying to receive emails off the server. Very occasionally it will work.
All network connectivity is fine. Any suggestions, no set pattern what we can
see.
