Hi There,
Wonder if you can point me to a way of solving my problem.
I am using MS Outlook 2003 on Windows XP SP-2. This has been working
fine now for about 6 months. In the last few days Outlook has started
to shudown/crash after being open and working fine for a while
(anywhere between 2 mins and an hour).
This seems to happen when I am NOT using Outlook, and it is open in
the background. When I keep the program occupied - setting
appointments, reading mail etc. It never seems to happen.
Sometimes ( 1 in 10 ) when I restart the application it tells me that
the file was not properly closed, proceeds to check it and then opens.
Most times it re-opens without complaint.
When the application shutsdown the minimised icon is removed from my
task-bar but the small icon for outlook is still shown in the system
tray (bottom right of screen close to the date). If I move the cursor
over this small icon it too disappears.
Info:
Help About: Disabled Items: Business Contact Manager [reports that it
is disabled because it prevented outlook from functioning]
Outlook Version: 11.6359.6360
XP SP2, 5.1.2600, HotFix KB834707
Steps I have taken:
Examined Dr. Watson Logs (nothing showing)
Reinstalled Office 2003 from CD.
Interesting Observation:
When collecting "services information" under help and support,
advanced systemd infromation, The progress meter goes to 100% and
dispays "(collecting Services information)" but does not return any
information (sort of hangs) - I get the following message displayed in
bold above the progress meter. "ins.PathnAme is Null or not an
object"
What has changed recently:
I installed an experimental add-in to Excel (written by our guys and
very simple i.e. not a virus) which added a toolbar button to all
office products, including Outlook. This was de-installed and the
toolbar reset.
I have a new internet provider at the office. (Crash happens at home
too, so don't think it related).
What has changed less recently
I installed ActiveSynch last month.
I upgraded my hard drive last month.
What is unusual about my set-up
1. I run against an SMTP and POP3 email server.
2. I use "FreeSMTP" as an out-going server on my computer (so I can
roam between hot-spots, use GPRS and send mails without changing
settings).
3. I manually record journal entries to log my time with clients.
All the above have been inplace for at least 3 months without problem.
-------------------------------
I have examined Dr. Watson and there are no application errors linked
to Outlook (a couple of iexplorer crashes only). So any ideas about
how I can start to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
Gareth.
