outlook 2003 stopped working

first of all when clicking on the desktop shortcut it says unable to open due
to installation problem please restart outlook if persists .. reload

then if i go to the original program it opens and once its open it says
outlook has stopped working microsoft will tell you what he problem is and
then it shuts down

i havent had a prob up til now

i havent really done anything but delete the shortcut and re did it incase it was a shortcut prob

You can start by opening any Office Program (Word is fine) and select the
option to repair your installation. Help->Detect and Repair. Check the
option to restore shortcuts.

If that does not work, try running scanpst.exe against your .pst flie (it is
a hidden file)

If none of the above work, try creating a new mail profile - Control
Panel->Mail Icon->Profiles->New. Do not copy your old one. Configure it to
connect to your current active .pst file.
