Outlook 2003 to AOL problems

I used Outlook 2002 and could send emails with an attachment to AOL address
but I upgraded to Outlook 2003. Now if I send an email with an attachment to
AOL user they receive the file as .mim - I have tested sending a word
document, excel spreadsheet, and jeg. They get all as .mim.
Microsoft says this is a problem if you try to send multiple attachments in
one email and the solution is to send each attachment in a seperate email.
This is no solution since one attachment with one email does not work to AOL.
I wish I hadn't upgraded. This is why I won't upgrade Explorer - just more
problems.

Keep in mind that other things can masquerade as attachments - such as
graphics in your signature or pretty stationery. Use plain text.

I don't use stationary or a signature. I don't do anything different than

What format are you sending the messages in? HTML? Rich Text? Plain Text?

It doesn't matter. I always us HTML for my email but sent and email with
small attachment to AOL user (I changed to Plain Text) and she still go it as
..mim.
There seems to be nothing I can do to prevent this from happening.
The Microsoft solution to this problem is to send one attachment per email
and that is what I do but they still receive whatever I send as .mim ...

I have 2003 on my laptop with no problems when I send to AOL....what can
possibly be the difference. I even deleted Outlook and reinstalled but no
change

I found this article, http://www.piglette.com/howtoopenmimfiles.html, that
suggests your attachments are being zipped somehow before sending...or that
something on the server or at the recipient's end is zipping them. Do you
have any add-ins or programs on Outlook or your PC that could be doing this?

I don't know what an add-in is so I don't know. As far as I know my Outlook
on my laptop would be the same as what I installed on my desktop. I do
nothing different that I know of...but there certainly is something
different. Like finding a needle in a haystack; I can't imagine I will be
able to figure this out. I was hoping that some one from microsoft would
address the problem.

An add-in is a third party program you can install which will work with an
existing program, such as Outlook or Internet Explorer, to make that original
program do things it can't do on its own. You can look in the Help section of
Outlook to find out more about add-ins and how to find out whether or not you
have any installed. You might want to compare the list on your laptop to the
list on your desktop -- sometimes add-ins are installed by programs like
Adobe Acrobat or an antivirus program to provide integration between the
programs, and you might not always realize those add-ins are being installed.

I found another article that has more information about .MIM attachments and
AOL users. I'm still not sure why they would get compressed files from you
when you send from your laptop and not when you send from your desktop but
maybe we are narrowing down the possibilities.
