Outlook 2003 tries to receive mails from a non-existent account

I have two accounts set up in outlook 2003, but when I send or receive it
shows three accounts as being there. It then errors on the non existent
account. I have checked evey setting I can think off in outlook even
resetting to first run settings etc, but this makes no difference. I would
appreciate some advice/assistance, on how to stop this account from working
or on where it could be hiding so that it can be deleted. It does not appear
any where in outlook ?.

Assuming you have removed the account from Tools > Email Accounts, then you
could try resetting your send/receive group. This is done by closing all
email enabled applications and navigating to \documents and
settings\<userid>\application data\microsoft\outlook and deleting the
<profile_name>.SRS file.
