Outlook 2003 & vanishing Forward button from toolbar?

Hi there,

Using Outlook 2003 on both a Lenovo TabletPC and Dual Xeon workstation using
WinXP SP2

Noticed some time ago on the TabletPC that the Forward button on the toolbar
had vanished.

No problem thought I, right-click on toolbar, Customise, Commands, Action
and drag the button back...

....apart from the fact that it was now a former shadow of itself hiding
between the Reply & Reply to All buttons with no text announcing it to the
world.

I had tried many times to drag it backwards & forwards, change its position
to no avail and so I gave up and tried not to let it bother me..

However, today this has happened on my workstation and it is now bugging the
life out of me!

I can't for love nor money restore the Forward button to its former glory no
matter what I do.

I did have an idea - I use an Add-In called Attachments Processor by MAPILab
and I remembered that had a button in its configuration to Hide the Forward
button from the Outlook toolbar.

Unchecked that but still no good.

So what would cause the Forward button to first disappear and then when I
try to restore it become a little button with no text and more importantly
how on earth do I restore my Forward button to the Outlook toolbar?

Can't answer that, but did you try deleting the file outcmd.dat located in
the (usually hidden) folder %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook (with Outlook
closed)? That contains toolbar customizations, so deleting it and allowing
Outlook to recreate it may help.

That worked!

What else (if anything) does outcmd.dat contain apart from the Toolbar
customisations?

Well it worked on my desktop but not on my TabletPC?

Same OS, same OL but even after I deleted the outcmd.dat without OL running
when I ran OL again I dragged the Forward button from the Customize Command
but it was still the same poor relation to its former self i.e.. tiny icon
with no text alongside.


Strange...
