outlook 2003 very slow when trying to save attachments

Win XP Pro, and Office 2003 Pro - Toshiba tecra. Outlook 2003 working fine, but when I want to save attachments it takes forever to bring up a directory so that I can choose where to put the file. I have set up the registry path for the default folder as suggested on the Knowledge Base and that comes up very fast, and can work around the problem BUT I would much prefer to be able to choose the path each time. I have had this problem with other more recent versions of OUtlook pre 2003 and would like to find the solution - if there is one. Please advise if there is one and what it is. Thank you

are you using mapped network drives? if you disconnect the drives it will be
faster.
