Outlook 2003 w sp3 crashes on closes

hello I have outlook 2003 and just about everytime I close it, it crashes.
In the past I just ignored it. But now it's getting annoying.

here is the event log. I have searched the net with no luck.

Any help would be great.

What 3rd party addons do you have installed that integrate, use, protect,
..etc Outlook data? These things can range from antivirus/antispam, fax,
pda, adobe acrobat (full version not reader), small business contact
manager, instant messengers, desktop search, .etc.

Note: I see mention to a computer name of LAPTOP. Is this a Dell laptop?
Reason I ask is that the Media Direct program installs an Outlook addin that
is known to cause issues.

PS - Real quick test, do you see the same behavior using Outlook in safe
mode? How to:
Select Start > Run
Type: outlook.exe /safe
OK button

The only add-on is Microsoft's mappoint for appointment locations. But with
that said the problem was going on before I installed that. My Norton does
run in the background checking mail. I do have adobe pro installed. When it
installed, it put some buttons in the tool bars for converting, but I never
use them. I also have QuickBooks customer manager that pulls dates and
appointments from outlooks calendar, but I rarely run it and it will only
pull the dates when it is run. QuickBooks does not run in the background.
It's only service is a DB service and that only relates to QuickBooks itself
not their customer manager software. But like I said this problem has been
since the start. One part of me is saying, uninstall and then reinstall but
I don't think that is going to fix this. So far everything I am reading is
saying to unregister and then reregister the msvcr71.dll. I've done that
more then a few times over the past few months but still a no go. I have
very little running on the start up. If I'm lucky maybe 5 or 6 programs will
be running in the background when the system boots. I would hate to have to
wipe the book for this issue. At this point there is too much business data
on it.
The laptop is a dell but it's been completely reloaded by myself. I know in
some cases that can raise a red flag but not trying to toot my horn here,
just saying. I have been building systems, reloading, fixing etc. For over
15 years in a government environment. If I had to take a wild guess I would
say I have reloaded over 10,000 systems in my life from 95, 98, NT, 2k, XP,
Vista, Linux, Unix, workstations, desktops and servers, etc. That's not to
say I could have screwed something up. No one is perfect. But no dell
goodies installed. When I build a system I make sure it's built so the bells
and whistle junk is not installed. Just a straight clean minimal xp install.
I will try and run in safe mode and see how that goes.

Let me ask you something on that note. If the software does run fine in safe
mode. Is there a way to make a shortcut for it to do so? Outlook's icon does
not have a target address so I can't just ad that switch to the target line.
Even making a shortcut, still won't give me a target address to input the
switch. If it works, at this point I would have to manually type in the
switch at the run box everytime. That can be a pain.

I have you beat by 4 years in a government office doing various IT support
functions, but I digress.

Yes, you can run Outlook in safe mode, but why would want to for a long
period of time. Safe mode is there to help isolate what might be causing
Outlook grief. Since you did mention Adobe Pro is installed, I would start
by disabling the Outlook addin if you opted to install it.

Close Outlook (check task manager to make sure it is gone from the process
list). Open regedit and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\PDFMOutlook.PDFMOutlook
and change the LoadBehavior value from 3 to 2. The Adobe PDF toolbar won't
be present in Outlook, but will be available in other apps like Word. Note
that installing Acrobat updates may reset the registry key.

Well I ran the safe mode for the day and it looked like all was going well,
until about 630pm. Shut it down and it crashed. I was not really looking to
run it for a long time, but a few days to see if it would crash. Well that
was quick finding out. lol. I have disabled the adobe and never update it as
I like my version. For now I'm going to hang back, wait for the crash and
post up the logs pertaining to it. Hey life in the government lane aint all
bad right? LOL. Remember back in the days when all the geeks were making
their 6 figures and walking proud. I must have heard a zillion times how I
was stupid was for not taking one of those high priced jobs. Well look who's
laughing now. LOL. Not me as I'm out and run my own business now, but your
still set..

FWIW, Norton's email scanner is incompatible with just about every email
client there is. Crashes on exit are one of MANY problems this application
causes. My suggestion is to uninstall Norton, use their debris removal tool
to clean up the junk the uninstaller leaves behind, then do a custom
re-install and DO NOT install any email scanning components. You do not
need email scanning. It is a superfluous, redundant operation that adds
ZERO additional protection while creating the potential for numerous email
service/client failures where none otherwise exist; Norton publicly
