Outlook 2003 will not send

S

SMEDLEY

I use Win XP, and Outlook 2003. Every first start of Outlook gives the
following advisory
"An extension failed to initialize. Can't open file extend.dat . . . ."
When I hit the 'cancel' button Outlook appears to open normally. But then
when I try to send/receive e.mail it does not recieve. I have completed the
"Test Account Settings" under e.mail account setups - successfully.
I can receive e.mail using another software and Outlook allows me to send
e.mails. This problem arose after no apparent reason - Outlook 2003 has
worked fine on my Win XP Home machine for months heretofore.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you using AVG? Extend.dat is a file(s) that AVG uses. Check Grisofts
website, Frequently asked questions regarding plug-ins for Outlook:

"The Plug-in is installed but there is no AVG Free Item in Outlook program
available"

Thanks - I'd seen that help page - no luck.

I'll try the remove and re-install outlook route.

Happy New Year

Is your problem sending or receiving? Your subject says "can't send", but
your message says "can't receive"... What happens when you try to
send/receive? Do you get an error message? If so, what is it?
