Outlook 2003 working with IMAP

Les Desser

Just trying out using Outlook with an IMAP server and have discovered a
problem.

When mail is sent, then the copy of the mail is saved in the **local**
sent items folder rather than the IMAP sent folder.

This is obviously totally unacceptable when working using IMAP -
everything has to go onto the server.

How can I change this? I have looked and can't see anything relevant.

Thanks.

I've just removed an IMAP account, but AFAIR (in Outlook 2007, but it may be
the same) if you go to Tools-Account Settings, highlight the account, click
Change and go to the Folders tab there's an option there to change the
location where Sent Items get filed...

There was nothing like that in 2003 so I temporarily installed 2007 and
indeed there is now a tab to cater for this. Unfortunately 2003 does
not have it.

Thank you.

Do you perhaps have any other accounts configured and the mail is being sent
by another account, and not your imap account?

No, it is definite an Outlook bug (as far as I am concerned).

Since my original post, I have done some Googling and it is a recognised
problem. The only solution offered is to create a Rule to copy the
email over from where Outlook put it to where it should have put it.

It seems to have taken at least 12 years to have it fixed in 2007 (first
documented by MS in Office 97)
