Outlook 2003

Mesa

After installing outlook 2003 I can't get it to launch
from the icon in the task bar. when I go to office and go
into outlook that way it will open and then when I try and
close outlook it continues to run. I have to go to
programs, office and application recovery and delete the
running outlook. I'm not sure if I deleted a file that i
needed to have it work properly but I've uninstalled and
reinstalled several times and it still isn't working
correctly.

I need help. Any suggestions and please go into detail.
Thanks.

Did you recreate you mail profile after installing Office? You can do this
in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...

Besides that make sure all you add-ins for Outlook are Outlook 2003
compatible. Check with the vendor for updates.

Are you running software that integrates with Outlook like WinFAX or
synchronisation software? These programs will keep Outlook open untill they
are closed themself.

I did set up mail profiles and don't have winfax running.
Outlook keeps running after I close it. I can't get it to
shut down until I go into application recovery and close
what is running. I had office 2002 before this and it
worked good but after installing this and then deleting
office2003 and trying to put 2002 back on it isn't working
right either. I think i am missing a file that is keeping
me from launching Outlook from the task bar and closing
it. I don't know what it is. I still need help.
Thanks to any one for your help. Please give details of
what to do if you have info.

Hi Mesa,

Have you deleted the profile and recreated it already?

Does it also happen when you start Outlook in Safe mode? Start-> Run: "path
to outlook.exe" /safe

Hi Norm,

Does this also happen when Outlook runs in safe mode? Start-> Run: "path to
outlook.exe" /safe

Do you have any add-ins listed in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button
Advance Options...-> button Add-In Manager and/or COM Add-Ins?

Yes I've deleted the profile and re-created the profile of the user. I've also scanned through the addins and com addins, then unchecked all the items listed. I've also gone through several attempts of reinstalling Office 2003. I tried a complete install thinking I missed a component
I even tried to uninstall any uneccessary applications that I think may tie in with outlook. Still no luck.

Quite persistent ;-)

Did it work in safe mode?

Locate outcmd.dat and extend.dat and rename it to .old. This will reset the
Toolbar and add-in settings.
