How can I get the contacts to show surnames (last name) first when trying to
insert the email in a new message.

I have the Contacts sorted by show as, surname, Christian names.

I know it is petty, but irritating, Outlook Express shows the names
correctly.

Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories otr address
books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book and click Change. At the bottom,
choose the radio button you like. CLick Close, then Finish.
