outlook 2003

So I receive an attachment, excel, open it, and I get the:
Microsoft Office Outlook.
The system cannot find the file specified.
So I save it locally, and try to open it. Same basic error.
So I start Excel, browse to the file, and can open it.
Where do I look to solve this?
Thanks

Long shot go into Excel then Tools || Options || General || ensure "ignore
other applications" is un-checked, failing that see if deleting your
temporary internet files helps.

I have encountered the same problems but only when opening office 2007
documents. I then get the conversion notification box and the file opens with
a strange file name. it makes no difference if I save it to my document
before trying to open it
