Outlook 2007 - 100% CPU Utilization

N

Nabeel

Hi,

I am having the following problem with Outlook 2007. Whenever I run
outlook the CPU utilization goes up over 99%. I've been using OL 2007
for over 4 months and it was working fine.

Tried repairing/recreating the OST and PST files.
Tried disabling all Add-ins (LinkedIn, Outlook Connector, etc.)
tried running Outlook in Safe Mode.

Nothing seems to work.
Anyone has any ideas as to what might be wrong?? I havent recently
installed or uninstalled anything on my machine.

I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Norton Antivirus,
RealSecure Desktop protector.

Do you have iTunes/iPod that tries to sync calendar with Outlook?

Do you have a desktop search program installed (e.g. Windows Search, Google
desktop, .etc)?

N

Nabeel

I do have windows Desktop installed (its been there for a long time)
and I used to sync my windows Mobile device with Outlook, but that
hasnt been working for over 2 weeks.
Since my PDA went kaput, i synced my Nokia handset a couple of times,
but the last week Outlook hasn't run once for me to beable to sync it.

Lets try this another way then, does Outlook run in safe mode? (start > run

Same problem, the only difference is that in Safe mode it takes 2-3
minutes before the CPU utilization hits 99%.

also when i select Exit from the File menu the application disappears
but the process keeps running (outlook.exe in task manager) until I
force terminate it .

if it makes any difference, i'm using Outlook in cache mode

Thats fine. At this point I would uninstall the Nokia software to see if
Outlook functionality returns. You also might consider uninstalling
ActiveSync if you still have that installed after your Windows PDA device
went kaput.

Lets see, you mention Norton Antivirus. What version is it and in the mean
time, can you exlcude .PST, .OST, .PAB, and .OAB files from real-time
scanning. If Norton offers the ability to scan e-mail, please
uninstall/reinstall w/out this feature.

I think it has something to do with the Calendar.
I uninstalled Office, Reinstalled it... and when Outlook was
'Preparing for first time use' and getting settings from teh server,
it worked fine while updating Contacts, Email but again hung up trying
to update calendar.

I googled for known issues with Outlook 2007 and Calendars and found a
few complaints - NO SOLUTIONS - with delegate calendars and Outlook
2007.

I have tried running outlook by removing a couple of calendars that
were shared with me, and so far its running fine (30 minutes)
Don;'t want to get my hopes too high, and this is going to be a pain,
not being able to work with shared calendars but I wish this takes
care of the Outlook issue for now.

Unfortunately I'm having a very similar problem. I'm hitting 40-50%
utilization on a Vista machine. Running Norton internet security 2008
(no add-on pack that includes anti-spam) and pretty much nothing
else. I do have a Windows Mobile 6 PPC cell phone that I sync with
the computer but rarely if ever (basically to just install stuff;
otherwise it syncs wirelessly).

I tried deleting all my tasks and that didn't do anything. I'm going
to try deleting Calendar items but to be honest I have VERY few of
them and I doubt that's the issue. My OST is only 823k and I don't
have any large PSTs on this machine. Will try running in safe mode.

Hope someone has some insight into this (or M$ just fixes it in some
update). Thanks in advance for any input.

Same problem here. Running Vista Business ona Vaio laptop. Outlook keeps
sending and receiving after I close it. I also have Norton Antivirus 2008
running, Calender gadget in the Vista Sidebar, uhm and the last outlook
backup was aparently corrupt...It got stuck in the middle of importing. But I
formated and reinstall everything and the outlook.exe is still running after
shut down. I suspect it has something to do with Norton....

Ok guys, it is your lucky day, I think I found it.

Open Task Manager and show the OUTLOOK.EXE process. Then close Outlook and
exit Windows Live Mesenger( thats what I was running). See if the OUTLOOK.EXE
dissapears...

I have a client using Office 2007, and he is experiencing the same problem with Outlook either not opening, or it requires to be opened in safe mode. He would reboot and that would allow him to start Outlook. I have repaired, I have run diagnostics and I have uninstalled Office and reinstalled it. Still has high utilization. I did notice that the Outlook.exe appears twice in the task manager processes. I have though about recreating a profile to see if that fixes the problem.
