Outlook 2007 address book

I

Irv

I do not use Outlook 2007. It is installed as part of Office 07. What I do
use is the new Vista Scan and Fax utility. Whenever I do go to send a fax I
wanted the Contacts folder to come up and not the Outlook address book. Is
there a way to do that? The way it is now I have people in both places
instead of just the Contacts folder.
TIA,

R

Roady [MVP]

AFAIK it is not possible to use Outlook as an address book for Scan and Fax.
If you choose Tools-> Contacts in the Fax screen does it open up Outlook or
your Contacts folder?

R

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

Actually, Outlook is the default provider of the address service for Windows
Scan and Fax.

Post makes no sense. The Outlook address book and your Contacts Folder are
the same thing. Clarify what you mean.

Really? Must be not supported then in a 64-bit version of Vista. For me it
always opens my Vista Contacts folder and cannot configure it with Outlook.

In 32-bit Vista Contacts is only the default when Outlook is not installed.
As soon as Outlook is installed it becomes the default address service for
WSF.

Good to know, thanks! 64-bit Vista doesn't support Outlook as an address
service.

Great. One more discrepancy to keep track of.
Does the Outlook Address Book Service work normally otherwise in 64-bit?

Well, that may be what the book says, but I can tell you that it's not the
same. I would not be here asking for help if it where. Evidently when
outlook is installed it switches to address book. How do you get it to
switch is the question.

Wrong. We can't determine why you're confused without a more complete and
accurate description. Clarify which program is set as your default Contacts
manager and to what Contacts Folder you refer.

Within Outlook? Yes. I haven't tested a mail merge yet but considering they
are both (Word and Outlook) 32-bit I wouldn't suspect any error. It will
probably only mess up when you mix 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
