outlook 2007 address book

i recently upgraded to windows 7 and had to re-install office professional
2007. all went well with the exception of one tiny "issue". in outlook
2007, all of my folders and contacts transitioned intact. However, i no
longer have an address book. any ideas what might have happened to it and/or
where it is or how to re-create it? thanks.

thanks for the input and suggestion. i followed the instructions at the link
you provided, but when i get to step 2 i cannot check the "show this folder
as an email address book". there is a folder there called "contacts", but
all of my options to make any changes are grayed-out and not usable.

Then there is more to your story than you have revealed. State how you
"upgraded" to Windows 7. State how you migrated your Outlook data to your
new installation. Please tell me you didn't use Windows Easy Transfer. You
should never use WET with Outlook. It doesn't work.

russ ... apparently you've hit the nail on the head, darn it. i "upgraded"
to windows 7 home premium from windows vista ultimate. this required the
process used for upgrading from XP, i.e. a clean slate that also required
re-installation of software, office professional 2007 included. not wanting
to lose any data or settings, i followed microsoft's advice and used WET. it
seemed to have worked perfectly for everything but this one little "glitch"
with the outlook address book. can this be fixed by a re-install of office?
hate to do it, but will do whatever. thanks for your input.

WET creates a corrupt Outlook profile. You can just create a new profile
from scratch to get your address book service to work again.

Valuable lesson: Trust no one. Just because Microsoft says something works
doesn't mean it does.

this evening and see what happens ... and will let you know if i get up and

Just make sure you know the name and location of the data file you want to
use in the new profile. The new profile will create a new, empty data file,
but you'll want to open use your old one and close the new one so all your
data will be intact.

still no luck. i know where the data is located and have backed-up the file.
the link info is written for xp or vista. i may be having a problem with
terminology?? not exactly sure what a new profile means and/or how to set it
up. i'll keep at it.

If so, state what you did so we can tell where you went wrong.

S_U_C_C_E_S_S !! i started the process per the instructions on the link you
sent and just wasn't in the mood last night to translate xp instructions into
7 instructions. tonight, i tackled it. i created a new email profile and
added a "test contact" once it was created. voile' ... the address book was
back and the "test contact" showed up. so what to do next? i decided to try
to import the data from the original .pst into the new .pst. smooth sailing.
bottom line, everything/everyone is intact again. my address book is back
and available when trying to address emails. i did have to re-enter all of
the email accounts i access via outlook, but that was no big deal.

last question. any reason to delete the original .pst and re-name the new
..pst to the original name? i'm fine to leave well enough alone and REALLY
appreciate your guidance.

Since you imported, there is no need to do anything else. Normally importing
is not a reliable way to transfer Outlook data. It is better to open and use
your old PST file and simply close the new one. Since you were able to
import successfully, you should only have one PST file in this profile.
