Outlook 2007 Automatically deleting new contacts

I am using Outlook 2007 and when I put in a new contact, Outlook deletes it.
I am not sure what the trigger is but at some point it will stay. I have
tried to email the contact but that doesn't seem to anchor it in the contact
file.
