Outlook 2007 Calendar Appointments disappearing - sort of

A

Alan H

I am using Outlook 2007 on a Vista Ultimate 32-bit platform, operating it
locally (i.e. no connection to Exchange, just using a .pst). I have an iPod
5th Gen and iTunes 8.0 but am not syncing any calendar or contact info to
that device. I do have a Windows Mobile 6.0 device (T-Mobile Dash) and am
using WMDC to sync to it.

I enter birthday information in my contacts folder for each entry, and that
generates a recurring annual event in Calendar for the birthday. However, I
am unable to see the birthday in either the calendar view (any of the
standard built-in views, that is) or the Outlook Today screen.

When I create a custom view, however, I *do* see the birthday events in a
list format.

The only way I can get the events back on the calendar and Outlook Today
views is to delete the birthday in the Contact record, save it, open it
again and re-enter the birthday. This usually works for 1 or 2 sync cycles
with the WMDC.

I also have a 2nd partnership set up with my office PC which runs XPSP2 and
Outlook 2003 with connection to an Exchange 200? server (no problems seeing
these events on that machine at all) using ActiveSync 4.5.

Please help - I am rapidly alienating my diminishing circle of friends whose
birthdays I can't remember :)

Hi there

I have almost exactly the same problem and it is driving me crazy!

Here is what I do:

1. Freshly create all birthdays by deleting all birthdays and reset the
birth date on the contact. This correctly creates a new yearly event for each
person which shows up either in the calendar and in the yearly events list
view.
2. I create a partnership with my HTC Tytn II via Windows Mobile Device
Center 6.1 (Vista Ultimate 64bit, Outlook 2007) and initially synchronize all
calendar entries. This copies all birthdays correctly to the mobile device.
3. I create a partnership on a second computer (Vista Home Premium 32bit,
Outlook 2007) with the same mobile device via Windows Mobile Device Center
6.1 and initially synchronize all calendar entries. This copies all birthdays
correctly to the second machine.
4. I synchronize again with the first machine and all birthdays disappear
from the calendar view. They can still be accessed in the yearly events list
view. This means, they are there but are not shown in the calendar view. The
birthdays are still correct on the mobile device (Windows Mobile 6.0).
5. I synchronize again with the second machine and the birthdays are still
visible on the second machine as well as on the mobile device.
6. To take this one step further, I create a new partnership with the second
computer (Vista Home Premium 32bit, Outlook 2007) and a second mobile device
(HTC Touch, Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional, whatever the difference is) and
initially synchronize all calendar entries via Windows Mobile Device Center
6.1. The birthdays are copied correctly to the mobile device and are still
visible on the second machine.
7. I create a new partnership with the second mobile device on a third
computer (Windows XP 32bit, Outlook 2003) and initially synchronize all
calendar entries via Active Sync 4.5. All birthdays are copied correctly to
the third computer and are still visible on the second mobile device.
8. I synchronize the second mobile device again with the second machine and
the birthdays are no longer visible in the calendar view but still visible in
the yearly events list view. All birthdays are still correct on the second
mobile device.

This leaves me with the following:

- All birthdays are visible on both mobile devices
- On the first and second machine, the birthdays are only visible in the
yearly events list view, not in the calendar view
- On the third machine, all birthdays are displayed correctly in all views

This leads to the conclusion that if you synchronize between two machines,
birthdays are somehow removed from the calendar view on the machine, you
first synchronize with. As I said: it is driving me crazy!

Any ideas? Anyone from Microsoft?

Best Regards, Joachim

Me three...and not a word from Microsoft on this anywhere that I can
find. I for now I have to make sure I check my mobile phone if I want
to be sure and see any recurring yearly events. By the way, I did not
enter mine in via the birthdays open in contacts, but did so manually
in the calendar for each one. Still, same bug.
I'll be very interested in any fix anyone discovers. I'm running
Outlook 2007 on an XP Box.

I am having a problem getting my work Exchange calendar to actually put
appointments on my Dash calendar. When I sync, it acts like all is well but
it's very hit or miss as to what appointments actually show up on my dash.
How can I force my Exchange calendar to send every appointment I have to my
Dash?

Add me to that list. Birthdays are there in any view except the day calendar
view. I have re-entered them multiple times. They work for a while then
disappear.
