Outlook 2007 Calendar format

The old Outlook used to be able to display the weekly calendar in a form that
looked exactly like the calendar planner one carries in one's pocket (the
format used by the erstwhile Lotus). I have been forced to upgrade to 2007,
which does not have that format and forces me to use the default - the hours
of the day are displayed vertically, the days horizontally. With this format,
I can't see a full appointment till I mouse over it.

Is this just one more arbitrary decision by Microsoft? Or, is there a way
out? "Help" seemed to suggest that the old formats are now obsolete and we
will all conform to Microsoft's preferred layout.

Thank you.

Certainly not arbitrary. It was necessary because of the calendar overlay
feature.
