I have Office 2007 Ultimate installed on an HP dc5750 desktop running Windows
XP SP3. All updates are current including KB952142. I am connected to a
Windows Small Business Server 2003 running Exchange 2003 using Cached
Exchange Mode. Outlook 2007 was working without any noticable issues prior
to Feb 12 2009.
In an attempt to recover Outlook folders and messages that were backed up on
our server, I was instructed by our system administrator to delete my
existing Outlook profile and create a new profile to which the backed-up
items would be synchronized. I did so and ever since, Outlook is constantly
synchonizing folders. During the synchronization process, the desktop is all
but locked up despite having 3 GB RAM and a dual-core AMD 4200+ CPU. As soon
as I right-click on the Outlook icon in the system tray and select "Cancel
Server Request", the system temporarily releases the system to handle other
tasks until a new server request is initiated.
I have noticed that I am unable to send some outbound email messages and I
get a dialog telling me "This item cannot be sent". If I attempt to send the
message using one of my other two POP3 accounts, I also get the same message
- forcing me to use OWA or web-mail to send email. I can receive emails and
send test messages back and forth between accounts but any larger emails
result in the error message. The Task Manager indicates Outlook is running
normally - there is no "Not Responding" indicator.
I ran Outlook/Office diagnostic and it eventually referred me to KB952142 -
which I confirmed was already installed last year. It also suggested I
needed to change my settings to allow Office to "Download a file periodically
that helps determine system problems". This, too, was already checked
despite the diagnostic utility indicating it wasn't.
Can you assist me in restoring full functionality to Outlook 2007?
