Microsoft Office Basic 2007, XP on a Dell Vostro 1700. After runnin
reasonably for 18 months, Outlook without any changes to computer
started running very very slowly. Excel & Word unaffected. Uninstalle
and re-installed a few times including 'updating' without success. Wil
not run in computer safe mode or program safe mode. Message - A dat
file did not close properly and is being checked for problems.

All helpful advice as how to recover from this problem most gratefull
appreciated

If you have configured your protection services to integrate with Outlook,
uninstall that integration. If your PDA is cradled, uncradle it when you
close Outlook.

Brian, thank you. Have done that but regrettably without success.

I have now created a new user account on the same computer and Outloo
works normally under the new account. Is it reasonable to assume th
problem lies with the original account settings? Is there a way o
purging the original account settings so that it will work again wit
Outlook please

Have you tried creating a new mail profile using the original Windows login?

No. The workaround I have used is the new login, transferred the ol
login's files' "ownership" or "Restored" from the old login's "Backup"
Time consuming but am able to continue work and hoping that futur
"Updates" are of good quality! Thanks for your interest & replie

I'd recommend trying that, then.

Brian, thanks. Do you know what will happen to files created under th
old account whose ownership have not been released nor taken over by th
new account when the old account is deleted, please?

Will their ownership be transferred to and be accessible to the ne
administrator account, will they be deleted or perhaps remai
inaccesible on their current drive until it is reformatted

I'm not talking about a new Windows user. I'm talking about a new mail
profile created by the same Windows user using the Mail applet in Control
Panel.
