This is new behavior about a month old. config is vista 32 bit, office 07
enterprise, 2 megs ram. PST file is about 3 gigs. archive pst is about 6
gigs. all updates are loaded and installed.. Have AVG antivirus 8. Zone
alarm firewall. since removed. NOTHING works....

Tried following: memtest (ok)
virus scans (both safe and normal modes with Kapersky, AVG and Trend Micro)
nothing
defrag hard drive several times.. nothing..
ran scanpst on both archive and inbox pst files.. did repairs didnt help..
hmm..

Basically about a few weeks ago, my system would start hanging for no
reason. No response from mouse, keyboard, Ctrl+Alt+del NOTHING.. just hang
and freeze.. I would re start, then anti virus would come up with error
saying invalid license number..?? I would uninstall, re install all would
work then freeze again.. Tried removing zone alarm and then Anti virus
stopped behaving weird.

All works well, everything stays on and works fine with Vista as long as
outlook 07 is not running.. Tried re installing 07.. no avail.. same
behavior.

frustrating... can only keep mail client open for about 5 min then crashes..

Any help ideas would be awesome.. thanks..

So if I understand you (third para) ; If you uninstall your AV & ZoneAlarm
the sys runs fine; & Outlook?
If so that puts the blame firmly on your AV & ZoneAlarm, seems to me

DL no.. Maybe I was unclear.. I uninstalled both, but still have same issue.
the OS (presumably) is fine and stays working as long as outlook isnt open..
once outlook is open, if left alone for a period of time (usually about 10 to
20 min) the whole computer freezes.. All is disabled and must do hard boot
and re start to get access to system.. clearly it is outlook. arrrrggghhhhh..

thanks..

Reboot your PC
Start outlook using the safe switch
