Outlook 2007 crashes - olmapi32.dll

Chuck

I get random crashes 2-3 times a day with Outlook 2007 SP2 on Vista
SP2. As soon as I highlight a random email in the Inbox Outlook
freezes, crashes and then after restarting/recovering closes the
Reading Pane.The type of email does not seem to matter. I do not have
Norton AV or products installed. Issue started with Office SP1 and
still exists with SP2. I've run 4-5 detect and repairs, I've done
complete re-installs all with no luck.Any ideas appreciated!

I'll see if this helps, if not I'll give safe mode a go. I have
already disabled the Adobe PDF add-on.

Anyone?

Seems kinda common with Outlook 2007... Can I roll back to Outlook
2003? Server is running Exchange 2007. I didn't have crashing with
Outlook 2003 sp3 + XP sp2 or with our previous Domino mail system
running Lotus Notes 7.5/8.0 client.

You could try renaming OLMAPI32.DLL to, say .OLD, then use Add/Remove programs
to perform a repair install on Office. You can also uninstall Outlook 2007
and reinstall Outlook 2003, if you wish. You won't be able to use Word as
your mail editor and integrated features like mail merge won't work, but most
everything else should.

There can be a wide variety of reasons causing Outlook 2007 to crash
Some of them are listed below:

* Outdated Outlook installation
* Add-ins or extensions issues
* Problematic Outlook profile
* Corrupted Outlook installation
* Damaged Outlook data file (PST)
* Damaged Windows profile
* System specific problems

SOLUTIO

To fix Outlook 2007 crashing issues, you should consider thes
methods:

* You need to ensure if the crash occurs when you perform
particular task, for example while opening a particular email message o
meeting on calendar. If this is the case, you can perform steps lik
deleting the specific item or doing a similar task as per the cause.
* You can try updating Outlook installation with the lates
cumulative updates available
* Microsoft Outlook provides different command-line switche
that allow you to start Outlook after cleaning few application settings
Based on the specific problem in existence, you can use these switche
to troubleshoot. For example, if crash occurs when reminders are fired
you can use / cleanreminders switch to clean and regenerate them
Whereas, if issue is related to invalid profile keys, you can us
/cleanprofile switch.
*

Outlook installation might be damaged. So, you can tr
reinstalling Microsoft Outlook 2007.
* Starting Outlook using /safe mode allows you to start i
without loading many of the customizations, Exchange Client Extensions
reading pane, customized toolbars, and COM add-ins, Form regions, macro
etc. So, you can use it to start Outlook. If you find that Outloo
doesn’t crash when you start it in /safe mode, you need to check th
list of disabled items to see if any of them relate to the type of kin
of crash you suffer. If this is the case, you can disable, remove o
rename the item, as per the case.
* To check if the issue is Outlook profile specific, you can creat
a test profile containing no email accounts. Since it doesn’t have an
email account, it will not send and receive any email messages. You ca
try adding the existing PST file to see if PST is not damaged. It wil
create a PIM profile. If it doesn’t crashes, you should continue workin
with this new profile.
* You can try to test the new Outlook profile with your emai
accounts as all the times, Outlook profile might not be the issue.
* If Outlook crashes after adding PST, the file might be damaged
Thus, you need to repair it using Inbox Repair Tool or alternatively b
using commercial PST Repair tools.
