Outlook 2007 crashes

Joan Mary

Hi,

On several occasions Outlook 2007 has crashed on me without any message
being displayed.

When I try to open it again nothing happens.

When I restart the computer and open Outlook I get a message asking whether
I would like to start Outlook in Safe Mode. When I do it opens successfully.

Can anyone please help?

When Outllook crashes it may not have truly closed, check Task
Manager>Running Processes for any instance of outlook.exe if found terminate
it/them
It maybe that you have an add-in that is causing a problem, what add-ins are
installed?

I'm afraid I've no idea what add-ins I might have installed; is there any way
that I can find out?

Thank you. The trouble now is that Outlook won't even open in Safe Mode. Do
you have any ideas on what I can do please?

Did you check in Task Manager>Running Processes for Outlook.exe?

Have you then tried, from Start>Run cmd

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe " /safe

(Where C\Program Files........is the path for Office)

Have you tried a repair install from Add/Remove programs?

I actually removed Office 2007 then installed Office 2003 and then used the
2007 updater again but it is still happening.

I did look at the Task Manager abd there was nothing running. I will try
your other lead but why does it need to be opened in Safe Mode all the time?

Uninstalling rarely cure anything, niether is it neccessary to install the
qualifying version, prior to installing the update version, you just need
the earlier version cd available to point to when the upgrade complains

You didnt look in running processes though.
It opens in safe mode because then it is not using add - ins

Thank you for your information; it is so easy just to flounder in the dark
with all this computer technology.
I think everything might be OK now. Eventually I did find Outlook.exe in
the Task Manager and everything burst into life.
Thank youo again.

Well you are now apparently good to go.
If it occurs again its most likely due to a third party add-in, which could
be any anti virus software that has been intergrated with Outlook ie your
anti virus scans incoming/outgoing mail

Try
1. Close Outlook
2. search for "OUTCMD.DAT" (Manages changes to Outlook Tool Bar)
3. Rename or delete OUTCMD.DAT
4. Re-Start Outlook
All should now be ok again
