Outlook 2007 'data file not closed properly' now won't start

Recently upgraded to Office 2007, not too many problems so far. Have got auto
updates running and they restarted computer, while outlook was running. Now
Outlook will not open. Get error message 'data file was not closed properly
the last time it was used and outlook is being checked for problems.
Performance might be affected while the check is in process'.

However, the icon come up in tray by clock (system tray?) and outlook opens,
then closes, the icon remains until I pass my mouse over it, and then it
disappears. Any ideas on how to fix this?????
