Almost everytime I open Outlook I get the message "A data file was not
closed properly last time it was used and is being checked for
problems. Performance might be affected while the check is in
progress". It then checks the .pst file with the cogs icon appearing
in the lower right hand corner of the window - "Data file check in
progress"

I've had this problem for ages but I've only just got round to
addressing it. I assumed it was related to Kaspersky Internet Security
7 but on advice of their technical support I uninstalled it and the
problem persists. I have a fair large .pst file - 1.7Gb.

scanpst finds no errors. I've tried installing Office 2007 SP1 which
makes no difference. Has anyone got any suggestons? I've looked for
alternatives to scanpst but can't find anything. Can anyone recommend
anything?

Many thanks!

I've also tried:

1. Uninstalling Google desktop
2. Remove all unncecessary add-ins in Outlook: PDFMaker etc
3. Tried starting Outlook with /safe

The problem still remains! I thought it could be an add-in so I'm
surprised it still happens with Outlook in safe mode.

I'm completely stuck!

Okay I've managed to fix it.

Deleted the profile and created a new one. Disabled add-ins which
weren't necessary (including some Microsoft ones) and removed some
others completely eg PDFMaker. I have enabled only the following:

Google Desktop Outlook Toolbar
Kaspersky Antispam Outlook Addin
Kaspersky Outlook Addin
Windows Search Email Index

Thankfully it wasn't the Google and Kaspersky ones causing the
problem. I know its a bit redundant having both Google and Windows
Search but I do actually make use of both. I actually think it was one
of the Microsoft ones causing the problem. Anyway, all sorted!
