outlook 2007 DEFAULT font

I absolutely loathe the font being used for Outlook 2007. Whatever font is
being used makes Outlook 2007 look like it is using some form of cleartype
that can not be turned off. I changed all the fonts that I could find in
Outlook to Arial 11 but can not change the font for the list of email
messages and the folder lists. I have it changed for editing/viewing of email
messages themselves but not for the overall program. Please tell me there is
a way to change the font for outlook 2007!!! I am using Windows XP and it
looks bad, it looks even worse on Vista, even with cleartype turned off.
Tools -> Options -> Mail Format -> Stationary and Fonts - changed!
Tools -> Options -> Mail Format -> Editor options - removed the checkbox for
"Always use Cleartype" - changed - still does not help

Please, i am begging here

What kind of monitor are you using with what type of resolution?

As with most other programs; program fonts can't be changed. Some can be
changed through Windows Appearance settings.

I have an HP LCD 2065 using 1600x1200 @ 60hz. EVERYTHING else looks ok except
for the new Office applications. I also tried a HP LCD 2035 and Vista and
they offer no improvements. I have played with the windows "cleartype" and
"standard" and the only way to make it look any better is to use "standard".

Any suggestions?

In default dpi settings? I'm running the same monitor configuration but then
on a Samsung 204B. The font looks really sharp for me. Are you connected by
DVI or VGA connector? VGA needs some configuring for optimum results. Also
make sure you have the latest drivers installed.

Note that Office 2007 is still in BETA and the same goes for the fonts. If
you upgraded from a previous Office 2007 the fonts in some cases didn't get
upgraded. In that case you'll have to delete the Fonts manually and do a
repair on Office from the CD.

My monitor is connected via DVI. Default DPI is 96 (normal size). I had
office 2003 installed and when I ran the set up i set it to remove 2003 and
install 2007. I have not had a previous version of 2007 installed. The fonts
in Office 2003 look crisp, but the font used for this 2007 not, they look
fuzzy around the edges.

So how does the fonts look ok when I click on Tools | Options but the font

I found a workaround to the fuzzy "SEGOE" font. I deleted the SEGOE fonts
from c:\windows\fonts - the text is clear and crisp (i think it is using the
arial font since the SEGOE font could not be found). I restored the "SEGOE"
font and it went back to the fuzzy text, so i think the only way I can deal
with Outlook 2007 is to remove the "SEGOE" font

Hmm, that looks like the wrong font to me. For instance the top of my "a" in
Mail at the top of the Navigation pane is a straight line and the "i" has a
bigger and rounder dot on it. The fact that it got saved as a 24-bit bitmap
instead of a 32-bit bitmap can't play such a big part in this.

Note that the Tools-> Options window uses a different font.

Note that ClearType should actually improve the font and not make it fuzzy.
Sadly not all monitors perform as well with ClearType enabled. Also most
monitors that I know of only display it correctly when running in the
highest resolution (like you do).

Also note that Office has its own ClearType setting. To disable this one;
Open Word-> Office Logo-> Word Options...-> Personalize-> untick Always use
ClearType.

Looks the same on a HP 9440 17" LCD notebook screen. I have tried Office 2007
out on different machines with different LCD's (HP 1904, 1925, 2025, 2035 and
2065). I have not tried it out on a normal CRT monitor, I will try that out.

I have an HP LCD 2065 using 1600x1200 @ 60hz. EVERYTHING else looks ok
except
for the new Office applications. I also tried a HP LCD 2035 and Vista
and
they offer no improvements. I have played with the windows "cleartype"
and
"standard" and the only way to make it look any better is to use
"standard".

Any suggestions?

I absolutely loathe the font being used for Outlook 2007. Whatever
font is
being used makes Outlook 2007 look like it is using some form of
cleartype
that can not be turned off. I changed all the fonts that I could find
in
Outlook to Arial 11 but can not change the font for the list of email
messages and the folder lists. I have it changed for editing/viewing
of
email
messages themselves but not for the overall program. Please tell me
there
is
a way to change the font for outlook 2007!!! I am using Windows XP and
it
looks bad, it looks even worse on Vista, even with cleartype turned
off.
Tools -> Options -> Mail Format -> Stationary and Fonts - changed!
Tools -> Options -> Mail Format -> Editor options - removed the
checkbox
for
"Always use Cleartype" - changed - still does not help

Looks the same on a HP 9440 17" LCD notebook screen. I have tried Office
2007
out on different machines with different LCD's (HP 1904, 1925, 2025, 2035
and
2065). I have not tried it out on a normal CRT monitor, I will try that out.

1) See Roady's comment of trying a different brand of LCD
2) I like your solution of removing the font; I was going to suggest using
RegEdit to change the program's font, but if the font doesn't work at all on
your screens, removing it completely will keep it from being picked by some
other program.
3) No problem with my Sony's X-Brite; well worth the price difference
4) Try an SGI (Silicon Graphics, Incorporated) monitor. I have been using
one of their last 22" CRT's on my desktop, and it's really quite nice.

Wow - I like how you want to blame it on the Monitor. By the way my issue is
the same on a Samsung 19" LCD... I was able to resolve my issue which did not
require me to delete the SEGOE font. Due to how you gave up on my issue, i
will NOT post the fix, which was software related and not LCD related...
