I upgraded from 2003 to 2007, with no problems. Then I noticed two e-mail
accounts (both POP3) were not downloading messages. I spoke with the admin
for that exchange server and he suggested deleting one of the accounts and
recreating it. And, if that didn't work, to setup that account as an
Exchange account.
I deleted one of the two accounts and recreated it. But, still was not able
to download e-mail messages. So, I attempted to create that account as an
Exchange account. (The exchange option was not available previously from
that server, so I always used POP3, but they completed the setup of Exchange
so it could be accessed remotely.) I received an error about a file not
existing and click ok to create that file. I then lost all e-mail access. I
have about six different e-mail accounts (all POP3) that were working. Now,
I was unable to access any of the e-mail accounts. The admin walked me
through setting up a second profile - Test Neil - and we were able to access
all but the two that originally had problems. I've since fixed those two
accounts and now have access to all the e-mail accounts. All are setup as
POP3.
But, I have two mail files (Data Files) one Personal Folders (Outlook.pst)
and the second test neil (testneil.pst). Both are located at: C:\Documents
and Settings\Neil\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. The
testneil folder has all the standard/default folders, and I have all my
e-mail accounts pointing to the Personal Folders - to receive e-mail. When I
send e-mail, it initially appears in the Outbox of test neil, and then moves
to the Sent Items in Personal Folders.
I have been unable to get rid of the test neil pst and folders. When I go
to change the default Mail Delivery Location, I get a message: You changed
the default delivery location for your e-mail. This will change the location
of your Inbox, Calendar, and other folders. The default delivery location no
longer provides full support for multilingual Unicode data. These changes
will take effect the next time you start Outlook. But, there is no "Default"
in the Comments column next to Personal Folders and when I restart Outlook
nothing has changed - test neil is still the default folder and Outlook opens
to that Inbox. Also, I have empty deleted Items on exit, but obviously the
items in the deleted items under Personal folders is not emptied.
