Outlook 2007 disconnecting

I'm having a strange issue. Here's some configuration info:

Exchange Server 2003 SP1 on Server 2003 SP1
Computers are running XP Pro SP2.

We just changed over a couple of our departments to use Outlook 2007
(previously were using Outlook 2000). Some of the computers have issues when
they open up Outlook 2007 where it will show as being disconnected from the
exchange server. Clicking on it and telling it to reconnect it will attempt
to reconnect and change back to Disconnected or Offline. So far to fix it
I've had to either reboot the machine..or if I close Outlook and go to
command prompt and do ipconfig /flushdns and then reopen Outlook it will
reconnect. It does this in both Cached Exchange Mode and non-cached mode so
it isn't that. All users having the problem are on our local network so it's
not a WAN or VPN situation. Also not all users have this issue at the same
time...one person it may work fine and someone else's it doesn't. At first I
thought it maybe tied to a problem with the DHCP/DNS leases, but people have
had it happen on consecutive days, not just on days their DHCP lease expires.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook with no luck and it has
happened both on older computers and brand new ones. This wasn't an issue
until changing from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2007 on those machines and users
that still use Outlook 2000 continue to show no signs of this problem.

It really is an annoying issue because until they get it to show Online or
Connected they can't receive or send any new emails. Right now the handful of
people experiencing it I have created a batch file on their desktop with the
ipconfig /flushdns command for them to run themselves but am looking for a
permanent solution. Any ideas?

Alvin, have you had any luck with resolving this issue? We have the same
setup and are encountering the same "Disconnected" issue with Outlook 2007.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

No one had responded to me regarding the issue. I even had a MS rep cornered
at a local TechNet event recently and got no info there. It seems tied to
DHCP/DNS, I had 2 DNS servers specified for DHCP scope one that was internal
and one that was our ISP's DNS server. It hasn't been long enough to say the
problem is 100% gone, but I haven't had anyone complain about the issue since
I removed the Secondary DNS server entry from DHCP scope so that it was only
our Internal one. Do you have multiple DNS servers listed in your DHCP scope?

I am experiencing this same problem. I only have one DNS Server listed in
dhcp (internal). My file synchronization goes off line at the same time as
Outlook.
Please let me know if you come across a solution and I'll do the same
you can e-mail me at grid-burn(at)hotmail(dot)com
Thanks.

Im also having the same problems
has anyone found a cure for it yet?

ive even tried running dhcp from the router as well as from the server and
no success, really annoying as we are using Business contact manager and it
constantly comes up with errors when disconnected :(

Try creating an entry for your Exchange server in your
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Run nbtstat -R from the command
prompt to clear cached lookups. This will eliminate any possible DNS issues.

This is another issue we are having with Outlook 2007 as well. Everything was
working fine on Outlook 2003 and now multiple clients are being disconnected
from the exchange server. Another user can log onto the workstation and
connect with no problems.

Have tried flushing DNS, rebuilding profiles, reboot workstations and
problem is still happening.

The real frustrating part is this is the 4th chronic issue we have run into
with Outlook 2007. One of these days hopefully Microsoft will start fixing
these issues.

Was suffering from this as well,
Don't know if this will help or not, but after enabling NetBIOS over
TCP/IP rather than letting it get it's setting from DHCP, everything
kicked in to life.
