Outlook 2007 does not recognize safe senders

First, in reading other posts - service packs have been mentioned. I cannot
tell if I have the sps installed. Outlook 2007 was intalled in 6/2009 when I
bought the computer. I have tried following intructions for figuring this out
- impossible. Is there a simple way to know if what I have is up to date?

The problem I am having is Outlook 2007 does not recognize safe senders. I
have done all the steps in Tools/Options to mark my contacts as safe. Still
email from contacts go to junk. I have added individual addresses to the safe
senders list - still finding safe senders in junk.
