Outlook 2007 downloading messages even when not running

My work computer(XP Pro) remains running 24/7. I am NOT using exchange, if
that matters. My work computer has Outlook set to delete messages from the
POP3 server after downloading. I close Outlook when I leave work, yet it
continues to download my mail. Therefore, any new messages that arive after I
leave are not available for download on my remote computer(VistaPro), as they
used to be. Any help would be appreciated.
