Outlook 2007 error since running updates

Hi
When I open outlook it closes and comes up with an error as described below.
Originally I thought it was because I had loaded black berry software,
however this uninstalled successfully and my friends have had no problems.
Then I was advised there have been problems with microsoft updates causing
errors that are serious or fatal to drives. The error I get is as follows :

Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Can not open the outlook window. The set
of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the files.
C:\users\myname\AppData\local\Microsoftoutlook\Outlook.pst Quit outlook and
any email programes and run Inbox repair tool Scanpst.exe.

I run this but the folders AppData onwards in the above string have
completely disappeared. There has been nothing else done but the updates,
one of which never finished and crashed the computer.

Can anyone help or am I going to have to reload everything ??

cheers

Bluejay74, Ms Office 2007 is a self healing program. So, it should repair itself.
Obviously this is not happening for you.
Ms Office 2003 can be repaired by placing the original install disc into
your cdrom and select the "REPAIR" OPTION.
Above all i suggest that you run a few registry cleaners prior to doing any
of the above actions.
Here are a few that I recommend: Registry Fix, Registry Mechanic and
Winutilities. (Note that Winutilities also has a disc cleaning funtion that i
suggest you also use).
Good luck.

You are using Vista?
The path is a hidden path
Are you logged into Vista with an account that doesnt have full permissions?
Uninstall/Reinstall Outlook will NOT solve anything

Yes it is vista - I am the only user with no accounts as such set up except
for me and my log on and as far as I know have administrator rights - is
there somewhere I should log on so to speak to specific administrator rights
??

You're recommendations are more than incorrect, in that they won't fix the
problem, they are also detrimental and run the risk of making the PC
inpoerable.

No they haven't. AppData is a hidden folder. Enable viewing hidden files
and folders in Folder Options in Control Panel. You'll then be able to
browse to it and its subfolders.

I'm afraid I'm not realy upto date with Vista, its a permissions issue that
doesnt enable you to locate your pst file in its default location, when
using scanpst.exe

HI DL

Thanks for that I knew about hidden files but because I had not changed
anything I did not think of it, found out how to unhide them and ran the
scanpst.exe file and what do you know Outlook is going again.

Thanks heaps your time much appreciated.
