Outlook 2007 freezes/crashes on startup most of the time

A little more than 50% of the time, Outlook 2007 freezes for me on
startup. Usually it is very early on -- according to the task manager,
there has been very little I/O when it freezes. When frozen, there is
no I/O or change in RAM usage. It appears to be totally dead.

After killing the task and restarting a few times, sometimes it will
start up fine, other times it will ask me to disable an add-on. The
add-on to be disabled appears to be varied randomly. Usually if I
disable the add-on, it starts up okay, and then I can re-enable the
add-on from the trust center and it works fine from then on.

I've seen lots of variations on this problem in this newsgroup and
elsewhere but no clear answers. Any real solutions? Although Outlook
seems to be blaming the add-ons, the fact that it seems to be a
randomly selected add-on that is identified as needing to be disabled
makes me suspicious.

I'm up to date with all patches, updates, and service packs (XP/SP3).

I should also mention preemptively that I have completely up to date
virus and spyware checkers, and that otherwise the system runs okay.

does it load correctly if you disable all your addins?
what addins do you have installed?

It seems to be inconsistent as to when it will start up without
freezing. It's hard to troubleshoot. I believe it has frozen even with
plugins disabled, but I think it always does startup okay in safe
mode, though.

I have several plugins. The ones it usually asks me to disable are
TechHit SimplyFile, TechHit EZDetach, and Litera Change-Pro, in random
order. I've spoken with the TechHit developer and he claims that just
because Outlook reports a plugin as causing a crash on startup doesn't
actually mean the plugin is responsible.
