Outlook 2007 hangs every 30 seconds (approx)

Hi folks,

My installation of Outlook is almost unusable (at least, it requires a
heavy dose of patience). It has the following problems, which may or
may not be related:

1. Outlook always asks me if I want to open it in safe mode. It
doesn't matter whether I shut Outlook down before I shut down my
computer or if I shut down my computer with Outlook running. I've also
split my PST into two separate PST files that are about 1.7gb each.

2. The more critical problem is that Outlook hangs about every 30
seconds, particularly when I'm composing a message. It'll hang for
about 15 seconds. I basically have to write sentences in between the
hangs. However, it also hangs whenever I move a message from one
folder to another or during send & receive (scheduled every five
minues). It also hangs when it's running in the background and I'm not
using it (i.e. it won't response if I try switching to it).

My computer is running Vista SP1 and Outlook 12.0.6300.5000. I've
tried upgrading to Office SP1 but it only makes the problem worse. I
also did a clean install of Vista and Office and the problem
reappeared after a couple of weeks. The problem did not appear to
happen before Vista SP1. The fix to improve handling of large PSTs is
installed.

Any thoughts on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kal

Hi,

Some other users experiencing this problem have emailed asking whether
I've managed to solve this problem. In my case, uninstalling Vista
Service Pack 1 solves the problem.

Best,
Kal

Dear Kal,
I have the same problem and it is driving me insane. I have spent hours looking for someone with the same problem and more hours trying to fix it. Did you get a resolution, if so please help!

Hi Kal and Mark,
On hanging problem, I believe this is occurring because you hav
outlook checking for email every 30 seconds. Change it to every 5 or 1
minutes or more and it should stop. (You will likely notice that outloo
hangs when first starting up - for the same reason. It is looking fo
your ISP. Good Luck (now on to my post "Outlook 2007 creating duplicat
draft messages"
