Outlook 2007 IMAP DIGEST-MD5 authentication broken?

Hi,

I have a problem accessing my ISP's IMAP server. Everytime I select a
folder, there is a delay of 5 seconds before the contents are shown and
during which time Outlook is not responding. I have done quite a bit of
troubleshooting and have come to the conclusion that Outlook *always* tries
to authenticate using DIGEST-MD5, regardless of my setting for "Secure
Password Authentication". My ISP's IMAP server responds that it is
supporting "AUTH=CRAM-MD5 AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=PLAIN" and Outlook always
issues "AUTHENTICATE DIGEST-MD5". When outlook receives the challenge, it
does nothing causing the IMAP server to report "NO invalid user or password"
after 5 seconds. Then Outlook sends the LOGIN command and gets authenticated
and continues as expected.

Thunderbird, on the other hand, chooses CRAM-MD5 in this particular case and
has no problems.

It is quite a nuisance to always have to wait those 5 seconds when switching
folders to say the least. Is there any way to turn off DIGEST-MD5 with a
registry setting or so, or is the behavior hard-coded into Outlook? I did
not find anything searching the registry.
