Outlook 2007 Instant Search - Mixed Results

Sorry for the repost, I posted in the wrong area.

I was hoping to get some clarification on this issue. We are running Outlook
2007 on Windows XP SP3. When we moved from Outlook 2003 to 2007 we noticed a
change in how Outlook searches for email. We are also using cache mode now as
well with 2007, not with 2003.

Basically, you can’t use wildcards in Windows Search, and any search acts as
if there is a “*†wildcard at the right edge of the search term, but not at
the left edge. For example, , searching for “vand†will bring up emails with
“Dave Vandertie†in the “From:†field, but miss emails with
“[email protected]†in the From: field, while searches for “dvand†will
produce the inverse result. I hope I explained that properly.

What users are starting to notice is that the new search behaves slightly
differently than the old search. Referring again to the example above, on a
Outlook 2003 computer, if you search for “vand†you do get both “Dave
Vandertie†and “[email protected]†in the results. On our 2007 computer
you get only “Dave Vandertie†and not “[email protected]â€. You can’t use
wildcards in either search, so that is not the issue. It’s that users are
used to searches working as if there were a * wildcard on both ends of the
search string, and that is no longer true now? This has caused some
consternation for those who rely heavily on Outlook searches
